Due to the popularity of our energy conservation program and increased applications across all sectors funding is limited and subject to availability. Incentives may be capped. Please do not rely on incentives to complete projects. Incentives are on a first-come, first-served basis until funding is exhausted.
Okanogan County PUD receives energy efficiency incentive funding from the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), where we also receive a large portion of our power.
Since the passage of the Pacific Northwest Electric Power Planning and Conservation Act in 1980, BPA has acquired an estimated 2,533.7 aMW of energy savings. To put this into perspective, this is enough energy to fuel 1.89 million homes for a year and an estimated $2.2 billion in annual ratepayer savings. The agency is committed to energy conservation and investment in the Federal Columbia River Power System.
Energy efficiency has many values:
- Lower energy bills. The region saves nearly $3.5 billion in avoided electricity costs each year.
- Cleaner air. The Northwest has the lowest intensity of greenhouse gas emissions in the country. More than 3,600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions are avoided for each average megawatt of energy efficiency savings.
- Stronger economy. People, businesses, and industries in the Northwest spend less money on electricity and more money in the rest of the region’s economy. Implementing energy efficiency measures also requires skilled jobs.

Working Together With BPA
BPA and OK PUD work together to make energy efficiency incentives possible! Here’s how the process works:
- Utilities purchase power from BPA with a portion of their rates supporting efficiency programs.
- BPA offers a wide variety of efficiency incentives to utilities.
- Utilities offer incentives to their end users that best first their service territories.
- End users participate in utility energy efficiency programs.
- Utilities provide incentives to end users and report savings to BPA.
- BPA approves and verifies the savings and reimburses the utility.
