History

The PUD and the USDA Forest Service (Forest Service) jointly prepared an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) evaluating alternatives to provide reliable electric power to the Methow Valley and improve electric distribution to customers in the lower Methow Valley.

The Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) was released on January 28, 2005, which started a 45-day public comment period.  The PUD and USFS, through their contractor Tetra Tech, responded to comments and made changes to the Draft EIS document.  In accordance with PUD SEPA procedures the Manager made a decision on a preferred alternative for incorporation into the FEIS.  The Preliminary FEIS was released in late 2005.

The Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was released March 7, 2006.

During the March 28, 2006 Board Meeting the PUD Board of Commissioners approved a motion selecting Alternative #2 as an action alternative for the Methow Transmission Project and directing the Manager and staff to begin the process of engineering, design, right of way acquisition, permitting and all other necessary steps to construct and complete this project.
