Conservation Programs

"Summer Programs for Youth (SPY)" or "ADVENTURES" Scholarship Program:

In an effort to promote community awareness about energy and the environment, the Okanogan County Public Utility District has made available three scholarships for children of our PUD customer-owners to attend a camp that has an energy, environmental or conservation component attached to the curriculum. This program offered by Western Washington University (WWU) is called SPY or Adventures in Science and Arts. In addition to unique programs, WWU houses kids in a college setting, giving them a taste for college life. Programs are hosted from the WWU campus in Bellingham, where kids stay in real dorms and eat college food. Read more...

Conservation Loans:

To promote the use of energy-efficient products and services, the Okanogan PUD offers conservation loans to qualified customers for the purchase and/or installation of certain conservation measures.  Some of these qualifying energy conservation measures include:  Insulation, doors, air-sealing, duct work, lighting and Energy Star heat pumps and windows.  INSULATION LEVELS MUST MEET PROGRAM GUIDELINES before funds are available for new windows, doors, and/or heat pumps.  Conservation loan packets are available at each PUD office, or by calling the Energy Conservation Office at (509) 422-8427 or 422-8428.

Appliance Rebates:

Rebates are available to customers who purchase qualified energy efficient appliances.  The rebate amounts vary, and come in the form of a check mailed directly to the customer.  For more information or to download and print a rebate form, click here.

You may also be eligible for an $85 rebate by taking that working but old refrigerator or freezer out of the garage and out to the Okanogan County Central Landfill for Decommissioning. To download and print a rebate form, click here.

Other Services:

The Conservation Department also offers  Energy Star Manufactured Home Rebates for the purchase of a New Energy Star Manufactured Home, free Home Energy Audits and Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs.  Rebates are also available on certain Renewable Applications for customers currently grid-connected.

In addition to the above, the Conservation Department offers a program for our commercial and industrial customers to upgrade to energy efficient lighting. Careful planning and installation can result in reduction in energy useage and maintenance costs.

Call or stop by the Conservation Office for more information on any of these programs.

Completed forms should be returned to the Okanogan County PUD Conservation Department at 1331 2nd Ave N. in Okanogan, or mailed to PO Box 912, Okanogan, WA 98840.
