OKANOGAN COUNTY PUD ANNOUNCES THE
“SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH (SPY)” OR ADVENTURES CAMP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM.
Okanogan, WA –In an effort to promote community awareness about energy and the environment, the Okanogan County Public Utility District has made available three scholarships for children of our PUD customer-owners to attend a camp that has an energy, environmental or conservation component attached to the curriculum. This program offered by Western Washington University (WWU) is called SPY or Adventures in Science and Arts. In addition to unique programs, WWU houses kids in a college setting, giving them a taste for college life. Programs are hosted from the WWU campus in Bellingham, where kids stay in real dorms and eat college food.
The following program is being offered to our scholarship applicants: EXPLORING ENERGY TECHNOLOGY, JULY 16 – 20, 2007. The PUD scholarship will cover all registration fees to attend SPY. Please note that students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the WWU campus in Bellingham, and any incidental expenses while there. Students will also be asked to make a brief presentation upon their return to the Okanogan County PUD Commissioners on their camp experience.
Scholarship applications are available to all 7th and 8th grade students currently living in a household that receives electricity from the Okanogan County PUD. Scholarship winners will be selected by a graded point system on following directions, content of a written essay and a recommendation from a teacher, counselor or principal.
